Colorado will hit the field for its opener against TCU this fall with an entirely brand new team. It’ll be new coaches, new players and a new approach to attacking football. Thanks to wide receiver coach Brett Bartolone, there will be some advanced chemistry on the offense.
The former offensive coordinator at Jackson State is very familiar with the thinking of quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The two spent an exorbitant amount of time together navigating an unbeaten regular season and a SWAC Championship.
Now it’s Bartolone’s job to get the wide receivers open and prepared to haul in those passes from Sanders.
“It’s going to be an easy transition, it helps that I already know how he thinks and how his mind works. My job is to just make sure that our guys are in the right place and that we are going to be able to get open. We are going to take a lot of pride in our room in understanding coverage and understanding where we need to be on time so that the quarterback can place the ball there accurately for us,” Bartolone said.
Not only is Bartolone familiar with his quarterback’s thinking, he’s familiar with the PAC-12. Bartolone led Washington State in receptions in 2012 as a freshman wide receiver. He was named 2012 All-Pac 12 Honorable Mention and 2012 College Football News Freshman All American Honorable Mention. His playing career was ended prematurely due to shoulder injuries and he joined Mike Leach’s staff as a student assistant.
