One of the most experienced coaches on the Colorado staff this season is Bill O’Boyle, the offensive line coach. He’s entering his 37th year of college coaching and echoes a familiar theme, this job is a dream come true.
He spent seven seasons at Chadron State College in Nebraska, taking his team to three NCAA Division II championship games. After leaving Chadron State in 2011 he coached offensive lines at Colorado Mesa, Southern Illinois, South Dakota and Kent State.
“Just being able to get back out in this country, knowing all of the high school coaches in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and in this region, it was good to get back,” O’Boyle said.
O’Boyle knows that this CU team will play with tempo and that requires a certain type of lineman.
“We run a specific system that’s high tempo and the kid has to be an athlete, that’s the first thing I look at with an offensive lineman,” O’Boyle said.
The o-line is often overlooked. Not this incoming group. Welcome to @CUBuffsFootball men. As you go, we go. Let's get it.

He knows all eyes will be on quarterback Shedeur Sanders and it’s a priority to keep him protected.
“They have to be able to run because of how much pulling we do, with our tempo they can’t carry a lot of bad weight and if they do, like some kids can, they have to be conditioned. They have to be able to stay on the field for 15 play drives and not get wore out.”
