Gary Harrell, better known as Coach Flea, a nickname he earned as a player at Howard University, is very close to Deion Sanders. Harrell joined Sanders’ staff at Jackson State University and was the interim head coach for a stint while Sanders missed time during the 2021 season. The Tigers didn’t miss a beat with Harrell at the helm, with an unbeaten conference schedule and a SWAC Championship.
That energy and trust traveled from Jackson to Boulder, as Coach Flea continues to build the program alongside Coach Prime. Check out the video above to see the sights and sounds of Harrell’s energy on his first day of practice at Colorado.
