Summer workouts are over, vacation is over, and the countdown is underway to the first game of the Deion Sanders era at Colorado. Players reported to fall camp on Tuesday and even though practice doesn’t officially begin until Wednesday, many players chose to get in some work a day early.
Jimmy Horne Jr. was on the practice field early, a reputation the wide receiver gained in earnest over the off season. Showing off a bulkier physique while talking to our Uncle Neely, he modestly acknowledged his physical gains.
“Putting in a little work, in that back end, I really got to get back in that weight room though,” Horne said.
He didn’t have long to talk as he was finishing up running drills for the day. As Horn took off it wasn’t long before our cameras came across defensive lineman Shane Cokes who was finishing up.
Starting early is a must
The Dartmouth transfer said there was no way he could afford to not get a head start on official practice.
“Got to start early, got to, especially after the break. You got to get out, you got to get your mind right, you can’t just come in the day of and play, can’t do it. .It went by so fast, but this what I’ve been asking for. Opportunity, that’s the whole thing. It’s here,” he said.
On Wednesday the full team will hit the practice field in Boulder in hopes of a major turnaround from 2022. While the roster has seen major overhaul since the end of last season’s 1-11 campaign, the number still sticks. Colorado football has to wear that record until a better one is posted. The work begins now.
