Colorado and Oregon will square off at 3:30 ET on Saturday in the PAC-12 opener for the Buffs. The Ducks are 21-point favorites according to Vegas but Colorado has been an odds defying team all season long dating back to the season opener against TCU.
Much of the spotlight for today’s game will be the battle of the quarterbacks with Shedeur Sanders and Bo Nix. Let’s take a look at the numbers from under center.
Shedeur Sanders is second in the country in passing with 1,251 yards. He trails Michael Penix Jr. of Washington who clocks in at 1,332 yards. Nix has yet to pass the 1,000 yards passing so far, with 893 yards on the year. Both players are averaging just a tick over nine yards per pass.
Sanders has the edge in passing touchdowns throwing 10 on the year, Nix has tossed eight thus far.
Both quarterbacks have done a great job of protecting the ball, Nix hasn’t thrown any touchdowns this one with Sanders tossing his first and only pick last week.
Nix is a fifth year senior and is on pace to eclipse his career passing percentage. He’s currently completing 77.6 percent of his passes, compared to his career best 71.9 percent last year.
Completions versus sacks
The completion percentage edge goes to Sanders who is completing 78.7 percent of his passes. Shedeur is even better on the road, completing passes at a 80.9 percent clip.
The most notable difference in the stats to this point has been the protection. Sanders has been sacked 15 times, which is second worst of the top 50 quarterbacks in the country. Nix has only been sacked one time this season, making him one of eight quarterbacks in the top 50 holding that distinction.
No matter where you fall on the point spread prediction, the general public should agree on one thing. There will be lots of points scored in this one. The over/under for total points scored is set at 70.
