The University of Colorado Buffs, to the public, is a Division I athletic program led by Hall of Famer Coach Deion Sanders. But as it stands, Sanders has a great team that exists both on and off the field.
Underneath it all, Sanders’ recruiting staff works hard and nonstop to improve the University of Colorado’s athletic program. Their responsibilities consist of building genuine relationships and finding the best fits for future Buffs in the years to come.
It Starts with Us
At the head of this well-oiled machine is Corey Phillips, the Director of Player Personnel. When it comes to his staff, Phillips said “we set the temperature in the room every day.”
“It starts and ends with us, whether we like it or not” he said. “Some days we do, some days we don’t. It starts and ends with us. Continue to keep moving the winning forward.”
The Most Gratifying Part
As trying and as long as some days may be, each staff member finds purpose in their specific roles. All feel they are making a difference in their own way in a young adult’s life. One of these staff members is Assistant Director of High School Relations, Jourdan Blake.
“You feel like you’ve known them your entire life, just seeing them have success on the field, on and off,” he said. “So that’s the most gratifying part outside of seeing the success and the wins, but just seeing a young kid excel and reach his dreams.”
This goes to show Sanders has made excellent decisions on all ends of the table. His recruiting staff, underneath the leadership of Corey Phillips, has been working nonstop to help produce the best results for the University of Colorado’s football program. Highlighting their achievements in their work and being an all Black recruiting staff at a PWI definitely deserves major recognition.
