Colorado defensive lineman Shane Cokes has an idea about how practice is going so far for the Buffs. After six practices he’s decided that the consistency isn’t quite there yet.
“The biggest thing has been consistency for us. One day we have a great practice. Next day we do okay. Another day we have a great practice, the next day we messing up. So it’s getting that consistency back. Yesterday (Friday) for D-Line personally was it was a iffy. But today we got better,” Cokes said.
Cokes has personal goals that he wants to accomplish over the next nine spring practices, including the spring game on April 27.
“For me just being more fundamental, stop messing up the little mistakes. Alignment and hands, that’s the biggest thing for me. Just really getting down to focus on those things. And as a defense, I think just keep playing fast, keep being consistent. You saw today, when we play together and we play fast, we can’t be beat,” Cokes continued.
So I think is just really building that thing and making this thing a fist instead of an open hand.
Last season Cokes started the first eight games of the season, but didn’t start again until the final game against Utah. He had 29 tackles and one pass breakup in twelve games played last year.
“So I think it’s just really building that thing and making this thing a fist instead of an open hand.”
