Trevor Woods has spent the majority of his career playing the safety position. During last football season however, the Texan was switched to a linebacker/safety hybrid but is expected to make the full switch to linebacker once the 2024 football season arrives.
“I got baptized by fire. Last year I wasn’t even in the linebacker room, I was with the safeties but going out there playing linebacker. I’m learning a lot now, but those games really helped. If things happen, they told me to be out there and know it all [playing both safety and linebacker]. That’s something I try to pride myself on; I try to know everybody’s job.”
The Buffaloes will come out next season with a whole new defensive core, as they brought in new talent and coaches in the offseason. Woods talked about his experiences with new Defensive Coordinator Rob Livingston and new Senior Quality Control Analyst Warren Sapp.
“[Livingston] is cool… It was talked about earlier, he’s an NFL guy. He’s real relaxed and calls it simple. Today was the first time I really got to see [Coach Sapp], but he’s just like he was last year when he showed up. He’s full of energy.”
One huge discrepancy from last year compared to this year is team chemistry. During this time last year, Coach Prime had just arrived and shook up 95% of the former CU roster. But now that the team has experienced an entire football season together, they are all way more confident in each other.
“[Now] it’s kind of normal. Last year everybody got thrown together, but most of last year’s team is still here. So we’ve all played with each other, worked out with each other, gone to events together, so chemistry is going to go up all the time.”
