It’s not taking very long for Deion Sanders to make it back to Prime Time. For the first time this century Colorado will play football on NBC, and appropriately it will be against arch rival Nebraska. CU will take on the Cornhuskers on the road September 7, with a 6:30 p.m. CT kickoff.
Colorado hosted Nebraska last season on the front end of a home and home series, winning 36-14 in the home debut of Deion Sanders.
The announcement came down on Monday during the NBC Upfront presentation, where the network showcases its portfolio of sports, entertainment, news and streaming platforms to advertisers.
The Deion Sanders led team appeared on network TV five times last season, the Buffs will be on NBC for the first time since beating Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 2, 1995.
The 2024 season kicks off on August 29 at home against North Dakota State. The television assignment and game time haven’t been announced yet for that game.
The Buffs are 3-0 against the Cornhuskers since both teams left the Big 12 after the 2010 season. This will be the eighth time that CU has been on NBC in program history.
It should come as no surprise Colorado is making a return to NBC. The national appetite for Colorado and head coach Deion Sanders was high last season as evidenced by television ratings. CU’s double-overtime win versus Colorado State had a record 9.3 million viewers tuned in on ESPN. The number made it the most watched late night college football game in ESPN’s history. That particular game kicked off at 10:20 pm on the east coast and didn’t end until 2:30 a.m.
