As a Colorado native and CU alumni, I’ve enjoyed watching videos of Coach Prime and his sons falling in love with the state’s outdoors. I also have to chuckle when I read the comments when Deion Jr. (Bucky), Shilo and Shedeur post videos of them snowboarding, snowmobiling, hiking in the mountains and exploring our state.
The replies often include concern from women who don’t want to see the brothers get hurt in nature.
Shilo has fondly labeled the women monitoring their safety as his “Internet Aunties.”
“Baby, be careful,” Shilo playfully said to the camera while snowboarding. “I’m being careful Aunties.”
The “be careful” warning also runs through my head when I watch Bucky and his friends exploring nearby mountains. They’re learning to dress in layers and always take a jacket, even when it’s warm in Boulder, because the weather turns quickly. I’d love to see them also replace their designer shoes with some good, sturdy hiking boots. (Special note to Coach Warren Sapp who also likes exploring the mountains: You are flirting with danger walking in Crocs along snowy trails.)
I was thrilled to see Bucky, his dog, Jeffrey, and a friend recently drive four hours south from Boulder to see the Great Sand Dunes near Alamosa.
“I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” Sanders said to his camera looking at the mountains of pure sand. “It’s amazing, bro. Look at this, wow. This is like the movie, ‘Dune.’”
My only suggestion is spend the night next time and enjoy the other scenery in this part of the state. Internet Aunties worry about you getting home after 11 p.m.
The Sanders brothers’ adventures are showing the world Colorado’s beauty and also reminds us locals that we need to make more time to explore our outdoors.
Enjoy Colorado, but guys, please be careful.
