The reshaping of the Colorado football staff continues with the third departure of an assistant coach since the season ended. Defensive edge coach Nick Williams is on the move and according to reports is set to join the staff at Syracuse.
Williams acknowledged the impeding move in an Instagram post over the weekend directed toward Deion Sanders.
“Thank you for your unwavering guidance and support during my journey with CU football,” he wrote. “You have selflessly dedicated a significant portion of your life to helping athletes and coaches such as myself. I sincerely appreciate all the time and effort you have put into me and my career. I am forever grateful for all the advice and endless encouragement you have given me.
“Your direction and wisdom has made me a better coach and better man. I don’t think I can ever thank you enough.”
The move to Syracuse would make sense when you connect the dots with the program. Earlier this week Syracuse hired Georgia defensive backs coach Fran Brown as head coach. Williams, a Georgia alum, spent three years working for the Bulldogs. He is set to join his friend in the ACC.
Williams joins tight end coach Tim Brewster who resigned at the end of the season. Brewster has since joined the staff at Charlotte. Sean Lewis was announced as head coach of San Diego State last week. Lewis left his job as head coach of Kent State to join Colorado as offensive coordinator this past season. Late in the season he was demoted from play calling duties, which signaled the probability of his departure.
