NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) deals have become a staple in the college football world. Recruits from around the nation have turned to the money they would receive through their respective deals to make their decision on their schooling. This often means disregarding crucial factors like culture, location, or economy.
Coach Prime‘s sons Shilo and Shedeur recently missed team outings to attend a Louis Vuitton fashion show hosted by Pharell Williams in Paris, France, which has left the country wondering why Prime would give such a happening the green light. But, as Uncle Neely put it, wasting an opportunity in this new age of college football would be foolish. The opportunities that would’ve been missed if the Sanders brothers hadn’t gained the event’s exposure are colossal.
Uncle Neely sat down with Coach Prime to get his perspective on this new NIL age of collegiate football.
“With NIL/Collectives there should be mandatory financial literacy classes,” he said. “What’s happening today is a disservice to these kids … they get the bag but there’s no education on maintaining the bag … they go out and buy things and have nothing to show for it later — for some, this may be the only athletic money they ever receive… I don’t mind our kids having the things they dreamt of – but I don’t want those things having them.”
Prime then added, “Schools should retain a staffer that’s relatable with a financial background to assist these young people – not just in securing NILs/Collectives – but to make sure they keep most of what they make…”
