Although four weeks remain until Colorado begins spring practice, it has not stopped Buffaloes running backs Sy’veon Wilkerson, Alton McCaskill and Charlie Offerdahl from taking advantage of spring workouts.
Colorado will begin spring practice on March 18. But until the trio of running backs take the field for their first practice, their plan to is keep improving as a unit through intense offseason workouts.
“It’s easier to push each other when we are working out together,” Wilkerson said. “We want to see everybody get to the next level.”
Colorado finished the ’23 campaign at the bottom of the Pac-12 in total rushing yards (827) and rushing yards per game (68.9). However, Wilkerson and company are hoping ’24 will be different.
Last season, Dylan Edwards (321) and Anthony Hankerson (319) led Colorado in its limited rushing attack. However, Hankerson entered the transfer portal in December and committed to Oregon State later that month.
With Hankerson’s departure, the veteran rushers are hoping to share the load with Edwards. Although McCaskill, Offerdahl and Wilkerson have their own rushing styles, they all wish they had the breakaway speed that Edwards possesses.
“He’s [Dylan] pretty explosive,” McCaskill said. “He goes from like zero to 10 yards so fast.”
After Colorado’s first week of spring practice, the Buffaloes will take a week off for spring break before resuming on April 1 in preparation for the spring game on April 27 at Folsom Field.
