The news out of Colorado this week has been more about goings than comings, but such is the life of the hyperdrive revolving door that is college football.
According to his social media Tar’Varish Dawson, a former four-star wide receiver, was dismissed this week from the Colorado program. Dawson saw marginal action in 2023, but did manage a touchdown and 124 yards on 14 catches for the year. In the year before Deion Sanders arrived in Colorado, Dawson had two catches for 30 yards as a freshman.
Uncle Neely discussed the move on The DNVR Buffs Podcast, which also simulcasts on Thee Pregame Show YouTube Channel.
“One thing about that portal door, it swings both ways. When you get to the end of that spring game and even leading up to it there’s going to be more people to transition out but this was a dismissal going into the portal,” Neely said.
Dawson says he was dismissed by the team after attending to a personal matter last week.
The initial news cycle this week focused on another dismissal. Bishop Thomas, the former Florida State defensive lineman who appeared in nine games for Colorado last season was dismissed. The news was first reported by Buffs Beat, who cited Thomas as the source. Prior to the dismissal he was on an indefinite suspension for violating team rules.
With the spring game just two months away for the Buffs, Neely says more movement is inevitable. With players either leaving or in some cases switching positions.
“I think that this is a roster that is crowded with talent, more talent than we had this time last year. And so you’re going to see people, switch rooms. You look at, say, Trevor Woods, he’s totally immersed in the linebacker room now. You know, he’s not over there with the corners or with the safeties. He’s in Coach Hart’s room right now. So you’re going to see a lot of that going around as guys try to find their way in navigating this talent rich team and make sure they’re in a spot where they can contribute and have their talent showcased. It’s all about opportunities.”
