Adam Munsterteiger of BuffStampede.com recently sat down with Uncle Neely of Thee Pregame Show to answer some of Buffs fans burning questions. The pair discussed Trevor Woods’ transition from safety to linebacker.
A Hot Topic
“Recently you were talking about Trevor Woods kind of ingraining himself in that linebackers room,” Munsterteiger said. “That was a hot topic on our message board because folks weren’t sure if he was going to move back to safety or if linebacker was going to be a permanent change.”
Neely’s responded with not knowing “if anything is permanent in college football.”
“When you go through spring ball and the people who are going to be on the team that have yet to arrive,” he said. “You know, and you go through summer conditioning, we’ll see. But as spring goes, Trevor Woods is a linebacker now, not a safety.”
He Can Still Lay a Boom
Neely said Woods has been in Coach Hart’s room and has been working out with the linebackers.
“He’s doing everything as if he was a linebacker,” he said. “And his football IQ, man, is off the charts. When you had Shilo Sanders and Trevor as safety, you had two of the more brilliant football IQ guys on the team back there together. Now you’re going to have it where Trevor is up a level, you know, and communicating at that mid level and and echoing calls to the D line.”
Neely said he’s looking forward to Woods’ transition.
“People are saying he’s small, need to put on some weight,” he said. “I think he would agree with that, too. But I also think his smarts makes up for that. He knows where to be, how to get there and protect himself, and still lay a boom.”
