Chandler Dorrell, the son of former Colorado football coach Karl Dorrell, announced Monday that he is leaving his role as the program’s associate director of player personnel.
Dorrell joined his father’s coaching staff ahead of the 2020 season after serving as a volunteer assistant with the NFL’s Dolphins (2019) and Jets in 2018. However, when Colorado parted ways with elder Dorrell in December ’20 to hire Deion Sanders, the 28-year-old remained on the Pro Football Hall of Famer’s coaching staff.
On Monday, Dorrell shared a heartfelt note about his four-year tenure with the program, calling it a “blessing.”
“I’ve come to work every day with the goal of giving everything to this program… and it’s given me so much in return,” Dorell wrote. “I will forever be grateful to Buff Nation and for all the people that have continued to support me over the years.
“Thank you to Coach Prime and his staff for allowing me the opportunity to showcase my value through my work. And thank you to all the coaches, support staff, student-athletes I’ve crossed paths with in my time here at CU.”

With Dorrell’s departure, staffers Corey Phillips and Devin Rispress will manage Colorado’s player personnel matters. Currently, Colorado is finishing offseason workouts before starting spring practice on March 18.
The Buffaloes will hold their spring game on April 27 at Folsom Field.
