Deion Sanders knows football. But what he also knows, is his kids.
I’m a Real Dad
Ryan Koenigsberg of the DNVR Buffs podcast asked Sanders if it’s started to set in that this could be his last year coaching his two sons, Shedeur and Shilo.
“It set in quite some time ago,” Sanders said. “I’m a real dad, which means that we have a tremendous relationship, which means that we communicate often, daily.”
Sanders is looking forward to what he calls a “sons vacation” later in the week.
“I can’t wait,” he said. “So we can talk about other things in life. Our plans and our preparations. But it’s phenomenal. It has been a tremendous journey.”
I Know My Kids
In fact, years from now, Sanders says he knows exactly what his kids will have to say when they reflect on being coached by their dad.
“I know my kids like the back of my hand,” he said. “I know my daughter. She just came to meet me right after practice with a big smile and a hug. That meant that she needed some money for the trip.”
The entire room filled with laughter.
“So, we just went up there, made that exchange,” he said. “Cut through the small talk and that was it. She’s getting ready to depart in a little bit and I know she needed some money just by her presence.”
Sanders’ daughter, Shelomi, is headed with the CU women’s basketball team to face off against the Drake Bulldogs in the first round of the NCAA tournament this Friday, March 22 at 6pm.
