The momentum of the transfer portal seemed to be on the side of players signing with the Colorado this week. On Tuesday however there was a bit of a surprise when running backs Sy’veon Wilkerson and Dylan Edwards both hit the portal within hours of one another.
Wilkerson, who followed Sanders from Jackson State, is entering the portal for the third time in his career. In 2022, Wilkerson ran for 1,152 yards for Jackson State, scoring nine touchdowns along the way. His production at Colorado wasn’t as robust, he finished 2023 with 241 all-purpose yards and scored three touchdowns in 11 appearances.
The bigger name nationally is that of Dylan Edwards, who decommitted from Notre Dame last year to join Sanders at Colorado. Edwards led the Buffs in rushing last season with 321 yards and had been playing some at receiver this spring in an effort to utilize his catching ability in Pat Shurmur’s offense.
As recently as last Thursday, head coach Deion Sanders spoke about the potential of Edwards in this year’s offense.
“Dylan is a tremendous asset. We’re going to try to get the ball to Dylan in all forms and facets. … (Shurmur) is going to do a great job of getting him the ball where he needs to get the ball on the go,” Sanders said.
After the news broke about the transfer intentions of both players, our Uncle Neely made an appearance on Thee Pregame Show Network to discuss the moves. You can watch his reaction in the above video.
