Sy’veon Wilkerson, who starred at Jackson State last season, didn’t immediately transfer to Colorado back in December. But the running back is in Boulder now after announcing his decision to join CU in early June. Now that he is here, Wilkerson has only one plan. Dominate.
“My main goal is I want to be the best because that’s what I’m used to. I’m always used to coming in and working and being the best. And so my main goal was to lead the PAC 12 and lead the FBS, not just the PAC 12, but the PAC-12 and the FBS. I got a picture on my phone of like the top ten running backs that were ranked in the FBS returning. It’s been my lock screen for the past three months, so I see that everyday. I’m not on that list yet, so it’s going to be different by the end of the season,” Wilkerson said.
Can Wilkerson match the talent in FBS football?
Wilkerson was a big part of the SWAC Championship team at Jackson State in 2022. He rushed for 1152 yards last season at Jackson State averaging 5.1 yards per carry. That was good for nine touchdowns on the season and a tick over 88 yards per game. But that was FCS football, can the talented runner make the same type of noise at the FBS level?
Wilkerson has no doubt.
“I always knew I could play at this level. I’m not really trying to prove nobody wrong, I’m trying to prove myself right. So that’s really what I focus on. I see what people say, but I’m at the point in my life I stopped caring what people say when I was in high school. I just do me because at the end of the day, nobody opinion matters. How I feel, how my momma feel, how Jesus feel. That’s what really matters at the end of the day.”
