It’s no question that the Buffaloes’ transfer portal this year was stacked with talent. Coach Prime attracted key players to the team for the 2023-24 season, including Ivy League grad transfer Shane Cokes.
Entering Boulder after recently graduating from Dartmouth University, the talented defensive lineman caught the Colorado scouts’ attention with his remarkable performances as part of the Big Green. He accumulated a number of accolades at Dartmouth, starting 20 out of 22 possible games, registering 4.5 sacks last football season, and was named to the All-Ivy League Second Team twice.
Cokes and the CU defense have made strides toward dominance throughout the offseason
With the new season right around the corner, expectations are high for Cokes and the Colorado defense. On the ‘DNVR Buffs Live’ podcast, Uncle Neely explained how his group has improved over the last couple of months. He stated, “This defensive line — from their ability, into more than their ability, their mentality, is totally different from what you had in the spring. They WANT to be defensive linemen.”
Cokes backed that claim, stating, “Everybody wants to work, get better, and help each other out… it’s an everyday, constant thing. We always learn, we always try to get better, and we always compete, and I love it. We’ve been building a close bond together, too…”
The Colorado Buffaloes have a lot on their plate as the football season is fast approaching, but Shane Cokes and his defensive counterparts are working hard to make sure they have the PAC-12 locked down.
