A legend of Colorado basketball and the current face of the football program recently got together during a spring practice. Chauncey Billups, one of CU’s greatest, spent time with Deion Sanders as the team practiced.
Billups, a NBA Champion and former broadcaster, is now the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers. The visit was twofold for Billups. He obviously wanted to support his alma mater and friend, but this was also an opportunity to see coaching through a different lens.
He was impressed by how hands on Sanders was during the practice.
“I love the command that he has out there. It’s just like an eagle watching over, just calling and barking out orders, he’s just a leader, he knows how to do it. He’s coaching on every single play. As a coach for me, it’s good for me to just kind of see these things, as I’m doing my thing too,” Billups said.
According to Mr. Big Shot, this won’t be a cameo appearance for him.
“You better know it. I’m going to be at the first game. If I’m supporting you, I’m supporting you. I’m definitely going to be here,” he continued.
Chauncey Billups will have some time available prior to the October start of training camp in the NBA. The first home game for Colorado is September 9 versus Nebraska.
