The promos have almost run their schedule as the clock ticks down to Saturday’s game between Colorado and No. 17 TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. Deion Sanders spoke to his team just before Friday’s practice and he was totally giving off ‘Remember the Titans’ vibes.
“What we have right here is something special. It’s something that’s going to change the whole face of football. I think they’re going to do movies about this coaching staff, about you guys one day, because I can see what’s going to transpire. I believe that much in you,” Sanders told his team.
The Hall of Famer also had a word of caution for his CU squad before leaving the team hotel. Having focus on this Friday is a premium, and could make or break their on the field opportunity on Saturday.
“When we get on that bus, as we get closer and closer to that practice facility, let’s get serious. We’re going to do things where we are in and out on special teams. I’m going to say this guy’s down or that guy’s down, and the next guy needs to be on point with understanding his responsibility. You need to know what’s going to transpire, who’s going to be in because these situations will happen tomorrow and we have to be on point,” he said.
Once the team arrived on the practice field the message was consistent for the Buffs.
“We are focused and locked in today. I don’t care what’s going on in your personal life, your private life, whatever it is. Today is football, we are locked in right now. I don’t want to see no extra conversation going on about Tom, Dick, Harry or Larry. We’re straight football,” Sanders said.
As the practice unfolded one comment that Sanders made at the hotel lingered in the air.
“I know what we are going to do. We’ve got to go do something that they wouldn’t fathom.”
Colorado and TCU kick-off at 12 noon EST on Fox Television. It’s the first game of the Deion Sanders era at Colorado.
