When it comes to Colorado defensive end coach Nick Williams the message always comes back to one thing, accountability.
“It’s never about them, it ain’t about what they doing, it’s always about us.”
“Either you’re an asset or a liability. Either you going to run from hard work or you going to look it in the face and try to fight through it,” Williams said after a recent spring practice.
Despite holding a hard line on accountability, he’s likely to be a natural magnet for players. While Colorado’s coaching staff is filled with veteran assistants and coordinators, one of the more relatable coaches could be Williams. It was just over a decade ago when Williams was a player at Georgia himself, from 2008-2012. After playing he transitioned into a graduate assistant position at Georgia before going to Texas A&M as a defensive analyst.
He reunited with Sanders after meeting the Hall of Famer while recruiting his sons Shedeur and Shilo out of high school while at Georgia. He made a strong impression on the eldest Sanders at the time and it paid dividends with this job offer. Now all four are at Colorado together.
Williams doesn’t ask anything of his players that he doesn’t require of himself.
“Every day I have to wake up and prove myself and show everybody why I deserve to be here especially with this elite coaching staff, so I have to prove myself every day and I’m going to demand that out of the guys,” Williams said.
