The University of Colorado Buffs’ have had a lot of firsts under Head Coach Deion Sanders, and this week’s game against in-state rival Colorado State University will be no different.
For the first time in this rivalry, both teams will have a Black head coach on the sidelines.
Sanders gave his thoughts on the historic face-off and on CSU Head Coach Jay Norvell in his weekly presser. Norvell has stated he is excited to be a part of this game.
“I haven’t met this gentleman, but I hear he’s a good, good man,” Sanders said. “I know he’s a great coach. He has those guys playing hard. I like that, I’m glad he said that.”
Still, Sanders knows how much is at stake in this back-to-back rivalry game at Folsom Field.
“Unfortunately, one of the brothers got to lose when you face another Black head coach,” he said. “And you want to see us win. I mean, that’s the thing. But besides that, man, it’s just a tremendous opportunity in allowing the nation to see that we are more than capable of doing a sufficient and a great job.
Sanders smiled and said he is “happy [Norvell] pointed that out.”
“I have the utmost respect for him, truly,” he said.
