In the midst of the countdown to the new season, the CU Buffs training camp has become increasingly intense. In preparation for visiting the National Championship runner-ups in TCU on September 2nd, every position group has put in work like never before. That includes the running backs, an all-new position group for the 2023 Buffalo squad. Gary “Flea” Harrel, who serves as Assistant Head Coach as well as Running backs Coach, spoke to the media and a couple of fans and gave his group high praise.
Charlie Offerdahl is a name that has begun to circulate around the Colorado faithful. When asked about the standout walk-on, Coach had only positive things to say.
“When I think of that name I think of consistency… Very coachable, he wants it. For a guy that’s a walk-on that was here and had to endure everything the program was going through, he still has a positive mindset, he still has a winning attitude. Every day he wakes up and brings it.”
When the question was raised if there is a scholarship in the picture for Offerdahl, Coach had a hopeful outlook.
“He’s definitely deserving. I don’t think he’s a guy that will step back once he’s given that opportunity… Once Charlie gets in that position, he’ll still be the same type of caliber player. The same type of caliber person… I think it’s something that should happen soon.”
Jackson State transfer Sy’veon Wilkerson has come into Boulder with the same passion and attitude he had back in Mississippi. Coach was asked what he saw in the Chicago native, and he responded highly.
“Sy’veon has been around. He had a chance to go to West Virginia, Delaware State, then he came to Jackson State. He’s moved around but his production never fell off. At Delaware State he was the no. 1 rusher in the conference. But he came to Jackson State because he wanted to be a part of what we were doing. He’s a guy that chases culture and a winning environment… I think he’s going to benefit from what we have because of the person that he is.”
