It can’t be easy to be the oldest son of a superstar athlete. When a career in football didn’t work out for Coach Prime’s oldest son, Deion “Bucky” Sanders Jr., people told him to find himself. Instead, as his original rap song says, he found a way.
Bucky reflected last weekend after a promotional event at Truck Ranch near Boulder how his life has evolved. While editing a video about the event, he stopped to thank his mother, Carolyn Chambers, for encouraging him four years ago when he was feeling lost.
“I’m not trying to sound weak,” he said recalling a moment in 2019 when his mother was preaching a sermon.
“I felt like she was literally talking to me, and I’m editing this video taking pictures with people and she in the back saying don’t lose hope; don’t give up….We literally prayed for all of this.”
His emotional reflection is not a sign of weakness but the strength of being thankful for the journey.
Several years ago, Bucky began finding his way sewing garments for his clothing brand Well Off Forever in his apartment. Older videos show him cutting the material, using his sewing machine and being meticulous with packaging. His brand took a leap when Well Off Media chronicled his father and brothers, Shilo and Shedeur at Jackson State.
After the family came to CU, Bucky became as recognizable and popular as his father and siblings. Fans have sent him various items with his Well Off logo, including carved wood art and paintings, which he’s hung in his home.
At Truck Ranch, Bucky and his brothers spend hours signing CU hats and other memorabilia to a line of fans who visited the dealership in Henderson. That was followed by numerous selfies and fans thanking the brothers for bringing renewed hope to the CU Buffs. Bucky’s original music played in the background throughout the event, including the introduction to his Well Off Media videos, with the lyrics:
“I walked around like I was undefeated,”
“I saw no results and still I woke up and chased them.”
“They told me to find myself, instead I went and found a way.”
